Tauhou

Location

Dunedin New Zealand

Tauhou ("recent arrival" or "stranger) is the Maori name for the small bird otherwise known as waxeye, whiteeye or silvereye. These are Australian birds, self introduced to New Zealand in the 19th Century.
They are abundant in our garden, feeding on the sugar water we put out for them, aphids, and the nectar of various flowers.
