After a while - with the meaning of "while" being measured in years - my photography had progressed enough for me to stop seeing subjects but rather, to see light. Subjects were still important of course, but primarily for the way they reflected, moulded, transmitted or produced light. Light is important in a photograph for where it is and where it is not. And this week I've been thinking about where it is not - or in other words, shadows: the shadows cast by things and the shadows cast by myself when I am in the way of the light, literally and metaphorically.
