Every school holidays we tow the caravan to Bridget's house so we can mind three of our grandchildren. It's something we look forward to doing as the kids are simply lovely people. The holidays began Friday week ago, and we drove up on Monday, just a bit late, with the added incentive of another grandchild arriving for the week. But the best laid plans etc etc. The week didn't pan out as expected.
Sunday September 28 2025. The last night of our "3 in 1" series. We go early to get set up in plenty of time. The parish's little mascot (we are on the Otago Peninsula, the only place in the world where Royal Albatross have an onshore, mainland nesting site) was sitting at the back of the church
Monday September 29 2025. We drove north today. I often stop to photograph this picturesque farm with its fields of canola.
Tuesday 30 September 2025. I'm coughing a lot. So I staying in the caravan and drank tea while Clemency did her grandmother thing. I got worse as the day progressed and in the evening went to the urgent doctor where they diagnosed influenza A
Wednesday October 1. Clemency has it too. So the pair of us staying in bed in the caravan all day with nothing to look at but the little table at the front of the van
Thursday October 2 2025. I cant remember feeling this sick in a very long time. Other plans have been made for the gandkids. Our daughter has been caring for us with spectacular generosity and care and attention to detail. That's who she is.
Friday October 3 2025. Still incapacitated.
Saturday October 4 2025. I'm slightly better today. So I got up and got dressed. I made some toast and managed to eat some of it. I doubt we'll be driving home tomorrow, as scheduled.
So sorry to hear about the flu!!!
