Early on Monday we flew across the Tasman to Melbourne and then drove a rental car across rural Victoria and New South Wales to Sydney, via Kyneton, Betbet, Bendigo, Yackandandah, the Snowy Mountains, Cooma, Canberra, Bungendore and Goulburn, before arriving in Sydney in the afternoon of Hallowe'en. We stayed in large cities and a tiny country town. We drove through a State forest and through farmland. We climbed a tortuous road to an altitude of 1500 metres and descended again to sea level. There were three of us in the car and over the course of five days we stopped to talk with many people - 29 of them, to be exact - most of whom we are related to, and all of whom are friends of long standing. It was a wonderful week.
Sunday October 26 2025. We stayed in Rolleston with our daughter and her lovely family
Monday October 27 2025. The Uber came at 4.00 am and we flew out of Christchurch at 6.00 am.
Tuesday October 28 2025. Jewell Station in Melbourne, a few hundred metres from where we were staying in Brunswick.
Wednesday October 29 2025. Silo art in Colbinabbin. These wonderful decorated grain silos are a feature of rural Australia. There is a silo art trail running through Northern Victoria with 29 places to stop and view them.
Thursday October 30 2025. We took the road less travelled from our stopping place in Northern Victoria to Canberra,.
Friday October 31. 2025. Lunch in Goulburn as we drove through to Sydney, stopping on the way to chat with my Nephew and his little family.
Saturday November 1 2025. Sydney! I love this city for its beauty and variety and energy. We are staying with our son, daughter in law and grandchildren, where these are the most common of the birds hanging around the backyard.
Lovely posts, and inspiring as we continue to get to know Australia, where our son (born in US, grew up in NZ, and now Australian too) has settled with his Melbourne-born wife and 2 young children.
