50 weeks seems like a milestone, and one that has come around surprisingly quickly.

This week has been about returning to New Zealand. I can't really say it's been a homecoming because "home is where the heart is" and there's much of my heart still in Australia.

Sunday November 9 2025. There is a trash filter rigged up across the mouth of Iron Cove Creek, where it empties into the cove. The filter works very well, as far as I can see, and for as long as I've been walking around the cove (3 or 4 years now) there has been a pelican sitting on it at about the same time every day. I assume it's been the same pelican all along, but who would know?

Tuesday November 11. We fly out this afternoon. Time for one last saunter around the neighbourhood.

Wednesday November 12 2025. Home. Clemency's happy place, or one of them, with its photos and flowers and little device to stop the lid crashing down on the tiny fingers of her occasional duet partner.

Saturday November 15 2025. Flowers which grow through a fence on one of our walking routes. I am informed by one of the members of our group (I'm not going to tell on anyone, but its the one who sometimes just happens to have a pair of secateurs on her person) that we have a vey near relative of this plant growing in our own garden. What are the odds?
